My Interview with Paje Txana Ikakuru Huni Kuin
I’m so thrilled to share with you the incredible opportunity I had to interview Paje Txana Ikakuru, the spiritual leader of the Huni Kuin tribe, one of the strongest lineages of Indigenous Tribes in the Amazon. This conversation is a deep dive into their rich cultural heritage, their art, language, music and way of life in the Amazon as well as a very special prayer that Txana Ikakuru holds in his heart and asks all of you to contribute to in helping to build a Cultural Center in the Amazon for the Huni Kuin to preserve their culture for the next generations.
Discovering the Huni Kuin Culture
In this interview, Paje Txana Ikakuru opens up about the intricate traditions of the Huni Kuin, which have been passed down through generations. He shares insights into their connection with the Amazon rainforest, a relationship that is not only physical but deeply spiritual. The Huni Kuin people believe that every plant, animal, and element of the forest has a spirit, and their way of life is centered around this profound respect for nature.
As I listened to Paje Txana Ikakuru speak, I was struck by the depth of his wisdom and the generosity of his heart. The Huni Kuin's approach to life is one that we can all learn from—a life lived in harmony with nature, with a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of all things.
The Healing Power of Amazonian Medicine with Hape’
Later that evening, after the interview, we were all blessed to receive medicine from Paje’ Txana Ikakuru in the Hapé ceremony. As he opened up sacred space with his powerful chants in his ancient language Hantxa Kuin, the vibrations sent chills up my spine as I felt the force of the Amazon. Being transmitted back to the Amazon forest with great reverence and love.
Receiving Hapé from Txana Ikakuru was such an honor and one like no other, the force and precision of his blow carried with it a powerful transmission of the Amazon itself. It had been a very long time since someone has served me Hapé with such power. The experience was profound, and I could feel the essence of the Amazon flowing through me. One of my friends was sweating and vibrating while another had cleared some deep emotional blockages. For days after we all commented that we felt a powerful shift in our lives after receiving Hape’ from him, what a blessing. Paje Txana Ikakuru is truly special—a vessel of ancient wisdom and healing, and his presence is a gift to all who encounter him.
Preserving Indigenous Wisdom
The Huni Kuin are not only fighting to preserve their traditions but also their environment. The Amazon rainforest, their home, is under constant threat from deforestation and exploitation. Paje Txana Ikakuru spoke passionately about the importance of preserving their way of life and the urgent need for support from the global community.
